Evolution Part 7: Sales ReportingSPU offers its publishers an unmatched level of reporting on sales. Many calls placed by publishers to their distributors result from inadequate sales data. SPU provides complete information. Customer names, types, and the discounts applied are supplied for every transaction for any period a publisher chooses. This information can be used to compute author royalties. Along with the usual information about inventory levels, back orders, and books shipped and returned, one of the reports shows the quantity of each title on hand and the copies sold through each week by each of the major retailers and wholesalers. Until very recently, such information was available only to huge publishing companies owned by media giants. For SPU-distributed publishers, this information clearly shows real sales activity in the marketplace, and makes publicity planning and reprinting decisions far more accurate. |
